Celebrate National Blueberry Month with Indiana Blueberries

Product Code - 8070          blueberries

Product Size - 12x1 pint

July is National Blueberry month. Treat your customers to Naturipe® berries from Goin's Blueberry Lane.  Goin's Blueberry Lane has been a family farm located in North Judson, Indiana since 1983.  They grow 11 varieties of blueberries which allow them to harvest approximately 9 weeks of the year.

Blueberries are nutritious, and a delight to eat. There's nothing more basic than blueberries.  A staple of our early ancestors, they're as much a part of our heritage as country quilts and wood-burning stoves.  In addition to their visual appeal, intense blue color and sweet delectable flavor, blueberries are a healthy and convenient food.

They rank the highest of all fruit and vegetables in anti-oxidants that fight aging. (Their powerhouse performance comes from the same substance that makes them so blue.) They're also high in fiber and fat free.  Blueberries are a great source of Vitamin A and C and also supply trace minerals (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium) while being low in calories and sodium.

Blueberries Handling Guidelines - Blueberries should be unloaded directly into a cold room immediately up arrival.  Blueberries should be stored at 32 - 34 degrees F. with high humidity (90-95%).  They are not as perishable as strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries, but improper storage temperatures can dramatically shorten shelf life.  Proper temperature is the best way to minimize shrink and maximize profits.  To reduce damage potential, keep handling to a minimum.

Important Quality Issues to Consider when Purchasing:

ASPARAGUS - This market is stronger on all sizes. Jumbos are almost non-existent and extra large is being used to substitute. California is all but finished in production. Peruvian product is still available on the East and West Coast. Product from Mexico is also available. Good quality is reported from our suppliers.

CITRUS

Lemons: Supplies are good. Demand is very good. The market is firming on 140's andlarger. Quality is very good.

Limes: Good supplies on smaller fruit, with larger fruit remaining limited.

Oranges: Demand for late Navels are slow as more users switch into Valencia's. Valencia's are in good supplies. Valencia quality is good and eating well.

RUSSETS  - In one week's time, the underlining premise of the Idaho russet market has reversed from excess to delays. The persistent cool temperatures in the West have pushed the pending arrival of new crop Norkotahs from Aug. 4 to Aug. 12 or later. The threat of this delay also includes the increasing likelihood of undersized russets at least in the early stages of the new crop. Idaho shippers are seeing a recent and sudden increase in fresh-market demand. Washington state shippers have heavy supplies remain in storage, but the percentage worthy of the fresh market is below normal. Shippers are catering to their regional needs and are not aggressively competing with Idaho for business in the Midwest and East. Shippers are seeing continued strong demand from Canada, which has tightened the availability of 90s and 100s.
