Happy Holidays! We wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and much happiness and success in the coming year.

In honor of the holidays and the time-honored tradition of gift-giving, we thought this would be a good time to highlight what we, as an organization, give to others in the spirit of volunteerism, one of our core Discover values.

Discover truly believes in being a good corporate citizen, especially in the communities where our employees live and work. We are committed to supporting the many volunteer efforts in which our employees participate, and to sponsoring many of our own as an organization. Each year, our employees demonstrate their generosity by donating to their charities of choice, through the You Care, We Share Employee Giving Program. Last year, our employees donated close to $1 million to more than 1,600 non-profit organizations. We also provide additional opportunities for our employees to showcase the spirit of volunteerism through participation in both company-wide and departmental events.

As an organization, we support a wide array of charitable organizations, including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Junior Achievement, to name a few. From a departmental perspective, each of our departments participates in annual or semi-annual philanthropic events, such as food drives to benefit local food pantries, beautification projects to benefit organizations ranging from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to the Salvation Army, blood drives for the Red Cross and school supply drives for a multitude of organizations. These events not only provide us with a valuable opportunity to give back to our communities, but also the chance for us to network with each other and cultivate new relationships.

In this quarterly issue, we'll be sharing information on some of our departmental events and what they mean to our employees, straight from many of our employees themselves. We hope you enjoy learning more about our culture. Happy Holidays!

Volunteerism in Business Technology

On Friday, September 26, more than 500 Business Technology & Administration Services employees volunteered to build a much-needed playground and skate-park for the children of a local area park district, Round Lake. Volunteers collaborated on building the playground, the skate-park and numerous side projects, such as picnic tables, benches, an outside stage with seating, children's road track, murals (World Map, and US), and more! We partnered with KaBOOM, a national non-profit organization that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
