Denver named a top real estate market to watch
Denver was the only non-costal city ranked in the top tier of national cities to watch in the recently released Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2009 Report by the Urban Land Institute and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Nationally, 2009 is expected to be a challenging year for the commercial real estate industry. The report, however, noted cities across the country that investors should watch, including Denver.
"The state capital has a major federal government presence, which should buffer job losses," officials said in a press release. "Steady population growth and broadening diversification of the industry keeps the housing market stable. Mass transit should pay future dividends."
Now in its 30th year, the Emerging Trends report is the oldest, most highly regarded annual industry outlook for the real estate and land use industry and includes interviews and survey responses from more than 600 leading real estate experts.

WIRED Poll reveals factors shaping career attitudes
A new poll commissioned by the
Metro Denver WIRED Initiative - a partnership among workforce development, economic development, education, and industry - shows that misinformation and lack of information might be discouraging some from attempting to pursue careers in certain industries.
The poll of 8-12 grade students and their parents, 8-12 grade teachers and counselors, community college students, and public workforce system job seekers was designed to determine what each group thought they knew about selected careers, where they attained information about careers, and what was most important to them regarding a career. The results of the poll show many discrepancies between career purveyors (parents, teachers and counselors) and career consumers (students and job seekers). The poll also shows perception differences between age and gender.
"Knowing the findings from this career attitude poll is very important so that we can now work together as a community and generate an action plan," said Ledy Garcia-Eckstein, executive director of the Metro Denver WIRED Initiative. "We must assure that our next generation of workers has the accurate information necessary to attain the skills and experience needed for the best jobs our economy is producing."
